What should I do when they bring drinks and smokes to school?
During lunch, one of my friends brought 7n7 and a guy that sits with us smokes at our table. Not trying very hard to hide it. We sit outside so we are not constantly being watched but I don't know what to do! Everytime he does or she brings a drink I freak out! Once she stuffed the drink in the nearest thing which happened to be MY bag because a guy was patrolling. If he found that in my bag I would be expelled! What do I do? I'm pretty new to this school so it's not like I have loads of friends? Should I just sit somewhere by myself inside? And if I do im sure I'll be told to move. It's really crowded inside and usually all the seats are taken.
Someone help me! Every day he lights one up now!
You don't need to do anything. I understand you have made smarter decisions and I applaud you for that. Now you must understand everyone else has to make theirs. You are not guilty by association; meaning you are not the one smoking or drinking and will not be held accountable or responsible for the actions of other people.
This is my suggestion: if you feel you know these people well enough, tell them how you feel about it. Once. Don't nag about it because it's not your decision. Tell them your opinion and why you feel that way then leave it alone.
If you don't know them well and are afraid of being outcast, say nothing and keep your bag close at hand. You have enough to worry about just trying to keep yourself from being pushed by your peers into doing things you know are not good for you. That is where your energy must go. You can say what you feel and think but you can't change the choices they make and shouldn't feel like you are letting anyone down. You may want to decide if these are the people you want to spend your time with. If this is where their interests are now, what are they going to be into a year or two from now? Perhaps looking for kids who are into being kids and not foolish ones is the best choice for you. Again, it is your decision.
Talking to your parents and other friends is a good way to relieve the tension you are feeling about the situation. Continue to make those smart decisions, share what you know, vent when you need to and let your pals make their own choices. Good luck.
