Radiators: Replace Dual Valves with TRV's ?

My radiators all have the old Dual Valves (in and out at one end). I cannot install TRV's on this style and I'm also told that these type of radiators cannot be power flushed.
So, I'd like to change to the normal TRV and lockshield at either end. The British Gas 'engineer' tells me that I will need to replace all my radiators (and is giving a hefty quote for this).
Can I not just use the same radiators; remove the dual valve & inner tube, connect at either end, and add TRV's ?

You are quite right to question the advice given by the British Gas Person. He sounds like a rip off merchant. I can think of no radiator which has been available in the UK in the past forty years that has been specifically made for twin entry valves having no tapping at the other end. This tapping is usually plugged with a 1/2" BSP male plug which can be undone with a square ended key. If you find this tapping exists, it will also be a simple matter to flush out the radiator with a hose after first removing the radiator to the garden.

If you find you can fit conventional radiator valves, I hope you will make a formal complaint to British Gas or Trading Standards
