4 CRT TVs, different brands, date purchased. All turn on/off when press TV volume button, not on remote. Why?
I noticed that my 3 yr old 32" Apex tube TV would turn on & off when I pressed the volume button on the TV itself. Does not happen using the remote. Curious, I tried it on my older tube TVs, a Sylvania, Philips, and Samsung and all did the same thing. It is very rare I bother using any of the controls directly on the TV so this is not a bothersome issue but I am curious to know why it occurs. If any remote does fail to work, I would not be able to control the volume since the TV would turn on and off before even lowering or raising the volume level.
Your question made me think about how you have to program a new remote control to match your tv. You set the Power and Volume to go directly to the tv. All the other buttons go to the cable box or satellite box. Is there some way that they get tied together.
I would check www.AVSFORUM.com and www.HOMETHEATER.com for an explanation better than mine..
