Why does my Sylvania TV automatically turn on, then do nothing?

My brother was playing Nintendo 64 on our 42'' Sylvania LCD HDTV, and when he turned it off the TV stopped working. The remote wouldn't work at all, the manual buttons on the side of the TV didn't either. The power light says that the TV is on and that high pitched TV sound is still there. Whenever it is unplugged and plugged back in, it automatically turns on, nothing comes up on the screen, and no buttons work on the remote or the TV itself. How do I fix this problem myself without sending it in to get repaired?

it's probably coincidental that the tv stopped working after your brother turned it off. The tv your describing will undoubtedly need a shop repair if you've tried everything else to get it to function.
