I know that It takes a 120v ac(wall supply) power supply and
outputs 300v ac.
A picture of it can be found at..

I want to know if it is a transistor.. or what it is, I got it from an
old radio/cd/cassette player.
I have stated one question that I have about it, and now a simpler one.. this um.. something.. seems to multiply the
voltage two and a half times.. is this true, or does it have
some sort of controller on it that reads the voltage, and no matter the input, outputs the 300v?
I figured that I might also want to add, that in the picture, in the outlined area, which is plastic, I can see through it enough to know that all that is in there, at least in the outer part, is copper
wire..
Thanks very much
Yes, it sounds like a transformer. I can't see the picture either. I also don't know of any consumer radio/cd/cassette players that used 330Vac so if it is a transformer you may not be using it for what is was intended for.
