I have a casset/cd player in my room, it has two jacks in the back for left and right speakers, I am wanting to set it up with 3 or more speakers, what kind of jack, or receiever do I need and where can I get it? also, is there any type of amplifier i can buy, or does the stereo have a built in amp/wattage rate?

From what you've provided, I assume there is an amplifier built into your unit with volume and other controls on the front panel. You say you have speaker jacks on the back of the unit for left and right channels. Are there any additional jacks on the back or front of the unit? If so, what are the functions of the jacks.It doesn't sound like you have much flexibility with the unit you have.You can get a surround sound receiver with 5:1 6:1 & 7:1 the first digit is number of speakers 5:1 would be front left, center, front right , left rear ,and right rear speakers. The 1 represents a subwoofer. All units will play in stereo mode with or without the subwoofer. Based on what you currently have, there are many good receivers in the less than $200 range. Or you may want to invest in a complete surround sound system which has a dvd/cd player, tuner, built into the receiver. Depending on what satisfies your needs, you can get get something in the $200 range and less. If you want a surround sound system with overall better performance, you may consider an Onkyo, yamaha ,or other unit with a powered subwoofer . These packages are in the $350 to $500 range. Shop around and listen to different systems. Take your time in selecting a unit. Stores like Circuit City and Best Buy have many display systems you can play with. I suggest you bring a couple of your favorite cd's so that you choose a system compatible with your needs. Finally, check the store's return policy and check if there are restocking fees. Target and Wal-Mart both have a 90 day return policy. Wal-Marts have six or seven system on display. However, the receiver is sealed in a acrylic box and only allows you to lower or increase the volume.
