Am i getting a dolby signal via optical audio out from the tv to my receiver if 3 HDMI are hooked up to the tv?
i have a Denon receiver that does not have a HDMI input or output. the receiver does have a optical digital audio input though. right now i have a cable box, Xbox 360, and a PS3 hooked up to my Lg lg60 TV via HDMI. Then i have my receiver hooked up via an optical audio cable to the TV's audio out. Is my receiver getting a dolby signal or is it just getting stereo signal or do i need to run a optical digital cable from the PS3, Xbox 360, and the cable box down to the receiver for audio and use the HDMIs for video to the tv only
Unfortunately, i have found that no TVs have optical pass-through from the HDMI in through the optical out. The TV's optical output is reserved for the built-in HDTV receiver only. You likely won't get any sound whatsoever from the optical out if the source of the audio is an HDMI input.
If your receiver does not have 3 optical inputs you need a new receiver to get digital audio from all three signals.
I WISH TVs passed through the digital audio form the HDMI inputs. But, alas, the TV is a monitor and not a receiver.
